Besgrow Spagmoss Premium New Zealand Sphagnum Moss
Besgrow Spagmoss Premium New Zealand Sphagnum Moss comes compressed into a 150 g block that expands to 12 L when hydrated. The strands are long and clean with minimal foreign material. Harvested by hand from sustainably managed wetlands on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island, it is naturally air-dried and free of chemicals and additives. The moss holds up to 20 times its weight in water while its open fiber structure still allows air to circulate around roots, striking a balance between moisture retention and aeration that most growing media cannot match on their own. It is naturally low in soluble salts and relatively sterile, and can be used directly from the pack without further treatment.
Where it gets used most at home:
- Orchids: The go-to medium for phalaenopsis, dendrobium, cattleya, and other epiphytic orchids. The long strands wrap around roots easily, stay intact in the pot for extended periods, and keep roots moist without waterlogging
- Carnivorous plants: Venus flytraps, sundews, and sarracenia thrive in pure sphagnum moss, which replicates the nutrient-poor, acidic, consistently moist conditions of their natural habitat
- Propagating cuttings: Moisten and pack around stem cuttings of philodendrons, pothos, hoyas, and monsteras to encourage rooting in a humid, sterile environment before moving to soil
- Moss poles and plant stakes: Wrapped around poles to support climbing aroids and encourage aerial roots to attach and absorb moisture, mimicking the way these plants grow in the wild
- Lining hanging baskets: Shaped around the inside of wire baskets to retain moisture and create a natural finish for trailing plants indoors or on a balcony

What Our Customers Say
Real reviews of our products & store by verified customers
This is definitely an excellent potting mix!
Once I replaced the mix of my alocasia with this, it started thriving and pushing out new sprouts. It's a chunky and airy mix so watering becomes more frequent but great for plants that hate wet feet and get root rot fast.

This is my third purchase of this potting mix, and it continues to impress. The drainage is excellent, and my plants have been growing healthier than ever.
Ideal for both indoor and outdoor applications. High-quality potting mix. Even though I definitely don't have green fingers. A reliable mix that makes plant care so much easier. Highly recommended.

Can't find a better soil mix to start my plant journey with! 2 weeks in and my plants are flourishing!
— H.K.
My alocasia stingray suffered from root rot and was attacked by mealy bugs. Potted an almost dead plant with just 1 yellowing leaf and few roots in this mix.
Today I cut off the last leaf and look, there is a sign of life. This potting mix is great. If I had known about this earlier, I would have fewer dead plants

Exactly 1 month since repot. This is a propagated anthurium and suffice to say, it absolutely loves the soil and the net pot.
I've had this plant since January and this is the first time it's growing 7 new leaves all at once! My only regret is that I wish bought a bigger pot because boy these roots grow fast!
— Gian J.
Excellent. Bought this as a recommendation from a friend and it works.

The soil is a good base and very suitable for adding amendments to suit the needs of your plant. I tried many soilless mixes, I like this one the most, for me it is the most versatile and easiest to use. Wish it came in a smaller 2L pack though. Good price and was delivered fast.

I'd highly recommend this potting mix as my alocasia roots grow very well and healthy in it. I'm also using it for other plant.
